This week National Home Security Month will be looking at the entry points to the home and we start with Lock snapping.
Lock snapping involves snapping the lock cylinder in two pieces by applying force, and removing the outside part to expose the lock mechanism. in doing so this provides easy access to the mechanism allowing the door to be opened. Burglars would normally use tools like hammers and screwdrivers to snap the locks and unfortunately it can only take seconds to gain entry. The locks most at risk are euro profile cylinders which are fitted in the majority of PVCu or composite doors and operate in combination with a multipoint lock. The Euro locks which were fitted in the last 15 years are probably just standard locks and are easy to snap. Only recently have people started to install the new high security Euro locks, the most common being the ABS 3 star rated euro lock. This lock is anti snap, anti pick and anti drill and is the best lock in its catergory meeting the TS007 3 star standard. This is obviously slightly more expensive but will slow the burglars down and prevent them from gaining access to your property.
