Since half term in October it has been a busy few weeks for A.R Locksmiths, as I'm sure you can tell as I haven't updated my blog for a while.
Its been a good few weeks with a steady flow of work coming in. I would say most my work is shared between auto locksmith jobs and Residential locksmith jobs, but I also get a few commercial jobs as well.
Auto locksmith jobs are generally Lost car keys or keys locked in the car - I can now deal with 90% of vehicle makes and models which are on the market, pick and decode the locks, cut and program new keys, replace door locks, gain entry to vehicles if the keys are locked inside the car.
Had a few keys locked in the car recently with most of those being in the VAG range, Volkswagen, Audi, Seat etc. Some locks are harder than others to pick for one reason or another but I can normally guarantee that I will pick the lock within 30 minutes.
And then with my new Car key cloning machine I can program new car keys quicker than ever. My keyline cloner can read various transponders and then re-write the information onto another transponder which will then be able to start your vehicle. This makes things quicker and easier for both me and the customer.
I am now in the position where I am looking too upgrade and add to my car key programming equipment, I want to have the latest equipment on the market so one day their wont be a vehicle or problem that I cant deal with, which in turn will hopefully attract more customers and help me build A,R Locksmiths into a bigger company.

Call A.R Locksmiths for a quote or even just to ask a question, I can provide free home security checks and help put your mind at rest.
If you or anyone you know have been unfortunate enough to get burgled then this may prompt you to review the security of your home.
But why do we always wait for an unfortunate event to happen before we put the right security measures in place.
Investing the majority of your security budget on an alarm is not enough to protect your property and entry points from unwanted visitors; it’s equally important to purchase the correct locks to ensure your home is safe.
There is never one lock to suit all needs. Instead you have to take into account a wide range of issues such as what type of door you have, the level of key security you require, the quality of the frame in which you are fitting it, your insurance requirements and your desired security level.
With this long list of considerations, you may feel like choosing the right lock is trickier than playing darts with spaghetti.
Luckily, A.R Locksmiths accredited locksmiths are on hand to give you the help and advice you require.
By obtaining good advice about your locks you may even be able to save money, as some insurance companies even offer a discount off the normal premium, if your property has a higher degree of security, which can be achieved by installing a lock conforming to BS 3621.
Aside from the benefits of a discounted rate on home insurance, a lock conforming to BS 3621 offers a higher degree of security to protect yourself, your family and your home.
If you think your security could be at all compromised, contact A.R Locksmiths and we can pop round and give a free home security check letting you know the right locks you should be choosing.
What is lock snapping?Lock snapping involves snapping the lock cylinder in two, by applying force, and removing the outside part to expose the lock mechanism. Doing so provides access to the mechanism, allowing the door to be unlocked.
Thieves use tools like hammers and screwdrivers to snap the locks and worryingly, it can take just seconds to gain access. This technique does not require experience or skill, merely brute force.
The locks most at risk of this type of attack are fitted with a euro profile cylinder. Euro profile locks are found in the majority of PVCu and composite doors installed in the last 15 years and operate in combination with a multipoint lock.
To combat this threat simply upgrade your cylinder to one that is specifically designed to prevent this method of attack, ideally one that meets the TS007 3 Star standard.
A.R Locksmiths can supply and fit 3 star rayed euro locks.
We mainly stock the Avocet abs and we now stock the Brisant Ultion locks, these are very good locks which also have a few options of upgrading the key
I'm back! After a busy couple of weeks and been away on holiday I have actually got some time to update my blog and let everyone know about the start of National Home Security Month.
Each week NHSM will be focusing on a different area of home security, this week is all about how to help you keep your property protected with the latest facts and stats about home security.
Print off the checklist below and see what security your home has or hasn't got and what you could do to improve it.
So i will be posting more stuff through out the month of October trying to provide you with the best security advice i can.
Thanks A.R Locksmiths
National Home security Month starts again next month.
As part of this I will be trying to give you some tips and advice on how to keep your home and everything you own secure.
Each week NHSM will have a different topic on security, from home hacks to security devices.
NHSM will conclude by preparing you for the nights of the year when the most burglaries take place – Halloween and Bonfire Night. In a recent analysis of ten years worth of data, it has been proven that Halloween is statistically the worst day of the year for vandalism and malicious damage to homes where it increases by 160%. Bonfire night comes in a close second, where the likelihood of being burgled goes up by 22%.*
National Home Security Month is designed for you to get the best information and advice on home security and help you to protect your family, home and belongings during the winter months and I will do my best to relay as much of this information as I can.
A.R Locksmiths are emergency locksmiths covering the Essex area. Locked out - key snapped in the lock - no matter what time of day call our 24 hour number on: 07813842390
I do enjoy a busy week with various jobs covering the Essex area.
I have also cut and programmed new keys for different vehicles due to broken or lost keys.
Two Nissan Navara's this week, one who had their keys stolen in orsett and the other just needed a spare key in Maldon. Navara's a pretty straight forward as you can order the key code and immobiliser code just by getting a bit of information that is on the ecu, which is above the pedals, and then you can calculate this into the codes you require.
Picked, decoded a 2008 ford transit tipper in Stanford le hope. Any transit pre 2013 is a nice easy job as its a tibbe key (old style ford key) Using my tibbe pick I can work out the key code from the door lock and then cut and program the key. Newer fords and more difficult due to the laser key key style and also ford have made it more difficult to just program a new key to a vehicle,
Also had a couple of Renault scenic key card jobs, one repair in Maldon and one new key card programmed in Chelmsford.
Along with the usual lockouts and upvc door and window repairs its been a good week.
If your locked out or having trouble with any lock on either your house, car or business then call A.R Locksmiths, 24 hour emergency locksmiths on 07813842390
We are your local locksmith in Essex and can be with you in 30 minutes to sort out the problem.
National Home security Month and Landlord news have provided this guide to home security, so if you are a landlord please take notes.
Although landlords leave their property in the hands of their tenants for long periods, there are still measures that you can take to increase home security.
To help your tenants keep your property safe and secure, you can take simple steps to deter intruders. Sainsbury’s Bank has put together a useful guide to home security, which you could also give to tenants to protect the property while they are living there.
Do you know about the different types of burglar alarm? Do you use a BSI Kitemark-approved lock? Do your tenants know how to deter intruders while they are on holiday?
Through taking simple, small steps, you can ensure that your property is more secure. Follow these handy tips and sit back knowing that your property is as safe as it can be:
Check that locks are fully secure
At the beginning of each tenancy, check the locks to ensure that they’re safe and secure. You may also decide that you need to install new or different locks to ensure that your property is safe.
Mortice locks – A mortice lock fits into the door itself. Five-lever mortice locks are recommended by Secured by Design, which is owned by the Association of Chief Police Officers.
Rim locks – These locks, sometimes known as Yale locks, are attached to the back of the door and lock automatically.
Multi-point locks – Multi-point locks are held closed by two or more hooks and bolts. They can be harder for burglars to manipulate.
Additional security bolts – These bolts make it difficult for doors to be forced open. They’re a popular choice for patio doors.
If your property has gates, a shed and a garage, you must also ensure that these have secure locks on them too, as they are prime targets for thieves
Install an alarm
Alarm systems are very effective at deterring burglars. There are many different models available, but the Metropolitan Police recommends a system that meets British Standard 4737/BS EN 50131.
Audible only – These alarms set off a loud and unpleasant alarm, which is designed to scare burglars and notify your neighbours.
Automatic dialling alarms – An automatic dialling alarm sets of a noise and makes an automated call to the police.
Remote signalling alarms – This type of alarm sets off an alarm and sends a message to a monitoring office, which then contacts the police.
Fit security lights
Motion-sensor security lights can also be very effective. A bright light makes it easy to see when someone approaches your property and can make burglars reconsider their break-in attempt.
These lights are particularly useful in high-risk areas, such as:
Parts of the property that aren’t overlooked by neighbours or visible from the road, Patio doors, Flat roofs, Back doors.
Ensure the property is insured
A good Landlord Insurance policy will protect your property from theft or attempted theft. This cover is included as standard in the Just Landlords policy, which has been rated 5-star by Defaqto. You should also advise tenants to insure their belongings against theft.
Keep keys out of sight
Remind your tenants to keep their keys out of sight, as keys or other valuables can be very tempting to burglars when left by a door or window. It is also advised that tenants do not hide spare keys in common spots, such as under a doormat, as these are the first places a burglar will look.
Take protective steps when going on holiday
If you know that your tenants will be away on holiday, there are measures that both parties can take to look after the property while it is empty. If they are away for more than a few days, try to arrange the following:
If you live near the property or your tenants have a friendly neighbour, have a car parked on the drive at all times. Ask your tenants to set up a timer for lights and the radio during the evenings. Ask your tenants if you can make regular inspections while they are away to ensure the property is safe. If it’s summer, go to the property to cut the grass or have your tenants ask a neighbour.
Empty homes are a prime target for burglars, but you can deter theft by taking preventative measures and asking your tenants to put certain actions in place.
Call A.R Locksmiths in Essex and we can help with any of the above, we will come round and provide a free home security check for the landlord. We'll give honest advice as to how you may be able to improve the security of the property and tenant.

Its been a lovely week so far weather wise and long may it continue.
But as good as the weather has been it can cause problems for us all in various ways. For me personally its when I'm travelling between jobs in my van, getting very hot and sweaty, and then arriving at the customers trying to hide the wet patches of sweat!ha
But in other ways the hot weather can also help me being a locksmith and make me busier.
This week I have received a few calls from customers that have had trouble locking their doors. Obviously the Sun beaming down on your door can make the door swell/stretch, basically move about. I find its worse on the Upvc/composite doors as they are a plastic but can also affect wooden doors as well.
I attended a property in Southminster and made some adjustments to their front Upvc door after the heat had made it very difficult to shut the door, and then also a nice wooden door in Maldon where the customer could no longer lock his 5 lever deadlock. And with this one you could definitely tell it was the heat as in the morning the door worked fine but as soon as the sun came round and was on his front door then the lock became difficult to lock.
I just made a small adjustment so that no matter what the weather the door will work perfectly.
I have also had people locked out the house in Chelmsford due to being outside in the weather and the door shutting etc - keys locked in the boot of Peugeot 207 and keys locked in the boot ford fiesta - both in Romford and both blamed the nice weather.
A.R Locksmiths covers the Essex area and are upvc door and window specialists and also Auto locksmith. I have a good range of lock picks so there isn't many cars that I cant get into.

Over the last couple of weeks I have received calls from customers stating the keys wont turn in the ignition.
I went to a Ford transit where the key had snapped off in the ignition, which we couldn't get out so I had to replace that one.
A Vauxhall Zafira yesterday in Clacton where the key wouldn't turn in the ignition. The first thing to try if your key wont turn is to spray a bit of wd40 in the key hole and then slide the key in and out for a couple of minutes. This will normally loosen any dirt or metal filings that may be in of got lodged in the ignition which is stopping the key from turning.
This is exactly what I did yesterday and it worked, got the key turning as good as new again. Also cut the customer a spare key just incase.
But in these two weeks I have had two Honda Civic ignitions which I have had to replace. One was a 2003 plate and the other 2006, but both with exactly the same problem where just one day the had would not turn in the ignition.
After looking into it and talking to a couple of other people this seems to be a problem with the Honda Civics and Jazz where the key gets to a certain point where its worn and it just will not turn.
The two jobs I've had as well, the keys don't even look that bad, a poor design fault from Honda which is surprising.
Most ignitions are fairly straight forward to replace and not too expensive so its the end of the world, might keep you off the road for a couple of days but easily fixable.
So if your key wont turn in Honda Civic - key snapped in the lock - need a replacement ignition and you live in Essex then call A.R Locksmiths on 07813842390
